December Updates!!

Trees: Hey ND girls! If you haven't seen the lunchroom already, there are two trees painted on the wall-- these were painted by Student Council with awesome help from Ms.Becker and Mr.Weeks! They were painted to make the lunchroom look less gloomy but mainly to celebrate Notre Dame's 100th year. There are also 100 snowflakes up to enforce this 100 year celebration idea, and look forward for Valentine's day and so many other holidays and seasons! Thanks to all the Student council members that contributed to this great idea and helped carry it out!

Coat Drive: Please look through your closets for any old or new coats! There is a big box when you go to the Mezzanine to donate your coats. If your parents would like a receipt for their tax returns, please let your HR rep know so they can write your name down. The coats can be any size, and they will go to the New York Cares Coat Drive. You can get more info here: http://newyorkcares.org/volunteer/holiday_volunteering/coat_drive/index.php

Memorabilia:  more exciting news! Notre Dame now has their own memorabilia page here: http://www.prepsportswear.com/school/us/New_York/New_York/Notre-Dame-School-Dragons.aspx?schoolid=2605982 You can customize any kind of shirt, sleeping wear, hat, etc. on here to show off your ND spirit! It'll be a great Christmas present to any of your friends at ND!

Christmas grams: Also look forward to buy a Christmas gram this week which will be sold during lunch periods by Student Council! It's $1 for a gram, and 3 for $2. There will be supplies there to decorate the gram and they will be delivered on the 21st during HR with a candy cane!

Remember that the Christmas Concert is this Thursday on the 15th at 6pm! E-board has also planned to make another video this Tuesday, so look forward to that as well! Thanks for all your support ND girls, and remember that you can comment on here, or leave a suggestion in the suggestion box in HR! =)

This Thanksgiving Student Council will have a Tag Day for FeedingNYC, a great organization that hand delivers Thanksgiving meals to families in need. You can find all of that info here: http://feedingnyc.org/about-us.php

Get ready to search for those old coats! Starting November 17th until December 16th, Notre Dame will collect coats and drop them off at a local precinct for New York Cares! The info will all be found here: http://www.newyorkcares.org/volunteer/holiday_volunteering/coat_drive/

Finally, Student Council is planning to paint a tree together in the Cafeteria celebrating our school's 100th Anniversary! First Full Student Council Meeting!

The first full meeting was a great success! Thanks to all of the members for all of your awesome input. Here are some of the topics we discussed:

Halloween Assembly: The assembly this year is on a Monday (10/31 of course!) and like always there will be a Costume Contest. This year there will be two separate contests- one that is solely based on costume (we will just announce your costume and you get right up on stage). And the second is based on a skit and costume. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners and they will all get N.U.T. (No Uniform Today) cards and goody bags!

Pumpkin Decoarting: Thanks to an awesome HR rep who suggested that each homeroom should decorate a pumpkin! We are still trying to finalize the dates but start thinking of great ideas and look forward to decorating a pumpkin with your homeroom and entering in a contest that will be judged by the Student Council E-Board!

Finally, new suggestion boxes will be in homerooms by next week and we are planning to create another video to go in depth and inform all of you of new updates! Remember to leave a comment or question! Thanks! =)

ND Dragons win the Volleyball Game!

Also a shout out to the ND Dragons Volleyball team who won our first home game 2-0 this past Friday!!! Congratulations girls and keep up the great work! =)

Halloween Assembly Questions

Student Council has been receiving different questions about the new setup for the Costume Contest for the Halloween Assembly. Just to verify, students will still be able to do skits/small performances this year, but it is only going to be optional so more students will feel more comfortable to participate. We're currently discussing if we should have separate winners solely based on costumes, and then separate winners based on performance. Any questions or comments? Leave one in the comment box! =) And remember to watch our video!

Meeting #13

In Meeting 13  (full meeting) Student Council talked about how successfully Spirit Week went, and the changes that could be made next year to make it even better.

-We also talked in full detail about the Carnival coming up this Friday, March 11. All the booths at the Carnival are listed in the post below, with the addition of Fortune Telling! This year, the Carnival is going to be in the Auditorium. everything is free, just be prepared to bring in quarters to put in the jars for the Pie- in your Face Booth and the Cupcake Table! Make sure to keep the ticket handed out to you at the doors in order to get the chance to pie an E-Board member in the face!

-Another topic we discussed was how to advertise to get more students to visit and checkout books from the library. The library also has a newsletter found on the school's website that summarizes all the new and exciting books that were purchased.

-The Cultural Showcase will be on Friday, April 1st from 3:00-4:30. Try-outs, (to make sure the performance is appropriate and at least 3-5 minutes long) are after school in the auditorium between March 21st-23rd. The full run through will be on March 31st. Those that do not come to the full run through on March 31st however, will unfortunately not be able to participate. The reason for this is because we need to make sure the event is as organized as possible! (so come to the the run through) Whether you can sing, dance, recite poetry, play an instrument, etc, all talents are welcome!

Meetings 10,11,12

It's been awhile since the last post, but after Spirit Week and Mid-Winter Break, Student Council is getting ready for the upcoming Carnival, ND Garbage Free Campaign, and Talent Show!

Meetings 10 and 11 were mainly organizational meetings to focus on the Chinese New Year Celebration and to give updates on Spirit Week. Our thanks to everyone who came to the wonderful and very successful event; everyone had such a great time! Spirit Week was so much fun, and thanks to all who came and participated at the Seniors Vs. Faculty Game(the students, teachers, Seniors, and spirit Squad), and congrats to the Seniors who won!

Meeting 12 was an E-Board meeting where we discussed the upcoming Carnival on March 11th. This year, the Carnival is going to be in the Auditorium, and there are going to be a lot of entertaining booths such as: Cupcake Decorating (25 cents), Karaoke, T-Shirt Decorating, Twister, Food, a designated place to get your picture taken with friends, and the Pie- in-Your- Face booth, where students can put in quarters in jars for which ever E-Board member they want to get pied in the face! The three members with the most quarters will get pied after the Carnival by three random students!

-The next event that was discussed is the Cultural Showcase on April 1st. This is event is a Talent Show open to everyone! Flyers and sign-up sheets will soon be around the school. We encourage all students to sign-up so they can show off their talent, whether its singing, dancing, playing an instrument, etc.

-We would also like to give a lot of thanks to Sr.Virginia, who agreed to pay for all the recycling bins that Student Council will purchase in order to Keep ND Garbage Free!

-Student Council is also embarking on a campaign to get more students to visit the library. The library is a great place to study and do homework, and it is also under appreciated. There are books that have not been read there since 1980! There also a lot of new books that students will enjoy; just ask the librarian Ms.Catennacio, who is very nice and spends a lot of time and effort to buy books that students will read. So if you have as little free time after school, why don't you stop by the library to just look around, you're bound to find something!

Leave a comment or question!
Thanks!
-Student Council =)

Meeting #9

In Meeting #9 we discussed the -Chinese New Year Celebration coming up on February 8th, Tuesday. At this event there will be Chinese character face painting, Origami, and Dumplings. There will also be a presentation of the Chinese culture with poems and sayings of Confucius. In order to get a free dumpling, you will need a ticket, which the HR teachers are currently giving out. If you don't have one, please ask your HR teacher!
-On the 9th, 10th, and 11th, during lunch, Student Council will be selling Valentine's Day Grams. Please make sure to put the HR number of the person you want to  send each Valentine to. Each Valentine will include a Valentine heart (of course!) and a lollipop and they will be sold for $1 and given out on the 14th during homeroom.
-We started to brainstorm ideas for the Carnival (March 11), some including a station to design your own T-Shirt, a Photo booth, Face painting, Twister, and much more! If you have any other ideas please leave a comment!
-Our campaign to Keep ND Garbage Free will really come into play after Spirit Week, and we are planning to raise money with the Environmental Club to order recycling bins for every floor and the lunchroom.
Any questions, ideas, or concerns? Leave a comment or a suggestion in the suggestion box in your homeroom. Thanks! =)

Jazz Choir

Hey ND Students! The Benefit Luncheon is a huge event for Notre Dame to raise money for the school. If you are at all interested in music and want to have fun and support our school, please join the Jazz Choir! Like I said before, this is a really important event for our school, and Sr.Virginia just needs a few more people to sign up. Practice is every Monday until the Benefit Luncheon on March 26th. Meeting #7

There was a lot on the agenda for E-board during Meeting #7, and its going to be a very productive and fun year for Student Council! Student Council just wants to say thank you to everyone who participated in Deck the Cafe, donated decorations, and went to the bake sale. We were able to raise a total of $333 dollars for an organization for Ectodermal Dysplasias, a personal cause to our school, and Tara (nfed.org).

Spirit Week is coming up in February, and the days are already decided. You can vote on the poll to choose which is your favorite day of Spirit Week.
-Monday, February 14th: Crazy Accessory Day (just like crazy sock and shoe day, but you can also wear a crazy hat, headband, earrings, etc.)
-Tuesday, February 15th: Twin Tuesday (triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets, etc. are also welcome!)
-Wednesday, February 16th: Pajama Day (the only day you have to pay, and it's just $1) (please dress appropriately!) That day is  also the Senior Faculty Basketball game!
-Thursday, February 17th: Celebrity Day (dress like a famous celebrity, superhero, villain, and even a teacher!)
-Friday, February: Our Lady of Lourdes Assembly

Student Council is starting a new campaign to "Keep ND Garbage Free". We're trying to encourage people to please clean up and pick up trash to keep the school clean. We are also in the process of trying to get recycling bins for the Cafeteria and the Hallways so we can also be green.

There will soon be suggestion boxes in every classroom to ensure that the students get their voices heard! We ask you to please be polite and that you must write your name on the suggestion or else your comment will not be counted.

We have discussed having a Cultural Showcase (Talent Show) in April, in which students can preform their certain talent, read a poem, sing, dance, etc. that embraces their cultural heritage.

And coming up very soon in February (not yet decided, possibly the 8th), we will celebrate the Chinese New Year after school with the help of Mrs.Frawley. there will be Origami folding, free dumplings, and a Zodiac Game. Notre Dame used to have this event in the past, and with the help of Mrs.Frawley we hope to reintroduce this event to make it as fun and enriching for the students as possible!
Thanks,
-Student Council =)
