Meeting #6

Meeting #6 was a quick full Student Council meeting to establish what supplies were needed for Deck the Café. The pre-decorating that went on today was very successful and a lot of what we wanted to get done was accomplished! Student Council would like to thank each and every single one of you who donated supplies and/or helped with the decorating, we really appreciate it. The next pre-decorating days will be tomorrow, Friday the 10th in the Conference Room (about 15-45 minutes, but not mandatory), and also Monday, the 13th. Thanks again everyone!

Meeting #5

In Meeting #5 specific stops and projects for our Candy Land theme were finalized. We talked about materials and supplies that will be needed for Deck the Cafe and we briefly spoke about what kind of feedback we got from the students and the faculty. If you noticed, there is a poll on the left side of the blog, so go ahead and vote to get your voice heard! Remember that there is also an e-mail for Student Council if you wish to contact us with any questions or concerns: ndstudents2010@gmail.com. Something that was also brought to the attention of Student Council is the increasing amount of garbage in the hallways. After Christmas break, we are planning to start a recycling program and work in co-operation with the Environmental Club, but for now, we ask you to please Keep ND Garbage Free. It takes only 10 seconds to pick up a bottle you see on the floor and throw it out in the trash. Chez Nous is our home, and we want to keep it as clean and comfortable as we can. Thanks!

Meeting #4

Meeting #4  was the second full meeting of Student Council! Changes were made to how the desks were arranged in the meeting, and we all sat in a circle to make the environment more open for discussion. Overall, it was a very productive meeting, and a lot of the planning and brainstorming for "Deck the Café" was established. The theme that was voted on was Candy Land, and there will be different stops along the cafeteria to make it look like a "Chez Nous Candy Land". The stops will be, (1)Chez Nous (2) Gingerbread Women (3) Candy Cane Land (4) Presents and (5) The Nativity. The days are split up into two days the 16th, and the 17th. Homerooms 202, 203, 205, 304, 305, and 403 will be going on the 16th, and homerooms 201, 204, 302, 303, 401, and 402 will be going on the 17th. When you go down to the cafeteria on the day assigned to your homeroom, go straight to your HR rep and sign in. the minimum time required to stay is 45 minutes , but if a student really can't stay for 45 minutes, and has a legitimate excuse we understand. The homeroom with the highest number of attendants will win a free dress down day! There will also be a bake sale going on in the middle of the cafeteria at that time, and all the money raised there will be donated to a foundation  for Ectodermal Dysplasia, (nfed.org to learn more), and is a very personal cause that a student, Tara Villaruel has asked us to support. So go to Deck the Café because it is going to be very fun, enjoyable, and a great way to show your school spirit!

Student Council Meetings #2 and #3

Meeting #2 started off with discussing the blog, and there was a lot of positive feedback, so we're glad that so far, the blog is working out, but its up to you guys, the students, to also spread the word about the Student Council blog. Unfortunately, the next open spot for the Xavier Food Pantry is not until June, so Student Council will not be participating in the food pantry until then. We then started to talk about "Deck the Halls" and tried to figure out how to make it more fair this year. This year we're planning to do "Deck the Café", and designated homerooms would get together on their assigned days and decorate together. The incentive to come, besides having a great time, would also be the homeroom with the highest attendance gets a prize, it is not yet decided whether it will be a free dress down day or small party.

In Meeting #3 we decided that we will have 4 different homerooms decorate the cafeteria in a series of 3 days. The original days that were chosen clashed however with other activities that were going on in the cafeteria at the same time, so the only open days for decorating the cafeteria are the December 2,3,10,16, or 17. We want to keep the days together so there are going to be two designated days instead of three. Below are secretary notes that Natalie helpfully took which outline everything:
-The homeroom representatives will have to attend the day their homeroom decorates the cafeteria and will be in charge of attendance.
- While the decorating goes on, we will be having a bake sale in the cafeteria for Tara’s cause. Her mother is willing to attend.
- When decorating the cafeteria, we will have different committees.
- $205 were collected from the Student Council Tag Day, we will use that money for decorations and for the winners.

All of these meetings were great and everyone really co-operated together and took in the ideas and feedback of others. Thank you Student Council members for being so supportive, and also the Students, who we encourage to ask us any questions, and give us feedback at our e-mail, ndstudents2010@gmail.com

Student Council Meeting #1

Student Council's first full meeting on Tuesday (11/9/10) started off with an icebreaker so everyone could get more acquainted with each other. We discussed the Halloween assembly and what could be done to make it as enjoyable, fun, and safe for the students next year. It was also decided that this year, Student Council will be helping out at the Xavier food pantry in the spirit of Thanksgiving. It is very exciting that this blog is up and running so the students can have more access to what is going on in our meetings. We would like to thank everyone that attended and participated in the meeting and we know that this is going to be a very exciting and successful year for Student Council!

Halloween Assembly Coming Up:

Today marked the first official meeting of Student Council 2010-2011! We discussed the upcoming Halloween Assembly and brainstormed ideas. We decided that this year there would be only two categories for the costume skits, either a Group or Single performance. Instead of limiting the students to categories such as eras and famous people, this year the judging is being based heavily on Originality, Creativity, and Performance. More details are to come soon! Questions, comments, ideas? E-mail us!
