Halloween Assembly Questions

Student Council has been receiving different questions about the new setup for the Costume Contest for the Halloween Assembly. Just to verify, students will still be able to do skits/small performances this year, but it is only going to be optional so more students will feel more comfortable to participate. We're currently discussing if we should have separate winners solely based on costumes, and then separate winners based on performance. Any questions or comments? Leave one in the comment box! =) And remember to watch our video!

HR and Class Rep Elections!

Hey everyone, Homeroom and Class Rep elections are coming up! If you signed up, you will get a page with instructions on them in homeroom tomorrow with the same instructions listed below:

Congratulations- you are a HR rep candidate! Elections are this Wednesday, 9/28/11, and here is what you need to do:
1.
Prepare a 30 second (min) - 1 minute (max) “mini-speech”/response to your HR as to why You want to be part of Student Council. You can present on either Tuesday or Wednesday (right before your HR receives the ballots).
2.
The results will be posted on the mezzanine bulletin board Thursday morning.
3.
The HR reps that won, and also indicated when they signed up that they want to be candidates for Class Rep, will be elected on new ballots on Monday morning (10/3) in homeroom.
4.
It is the job of the Class rep candidates to visit the other two HR’s in their grade by Friday morning to give the same “mini-speech”.  (If you are not sure if you are a candidate for class rep, ask your HR teacher).
5.
By Tuesday morning all the winners will be announced! The new members will attend a full Student Council meeting that Thursday in room 303!

Reminder: There are only two HR reps per homeroom and there is only one Class Rep per grade. In order to be a Class Rep, you must be elected first as a HR rep. Any questions, please e-mail student council at ndstudents2010@gmail.com, visit our blog ndstudentcouncil.blogspot.com, or stop any of the E-Board members in the hallway! Good luck! =)

Meeting #13

In Meeting 13  (full meeting) Student Council talked about how successfully Spirit Week went, and the changes that could be made next year to make it even better.

-We also talked in full detail about the Carnival coming up this Friday, March 11. All the booths at the Carnival are listed in the post below, with the addition of Fortune Telling! This year, the Carnival is going to be in the Auditorium. everything is free, just be prepared to bring in quarters to put in the jars for the Pie- in your Face Booth and the Cupcake Table! Make sure to keep the ticket handed out to you at the doors in order to get the chance to pie an E-Board member in the face!

-Another topic we discussed was how to advertise to get more students to visit and checkout books from the library. The library also has a newsletter found on the school's website that summarizes all the new and exciting books that were purchased.

-The Cultural Showcase will be on Friday, April 1st from 3:00-4:30. Try-outs, (to make sure the performance is appropriate and at least 3-5 minutes long) are after school in the auditorium between March 21st-23rd. The full run through will be on March 31st. Those that do not come to the full run through on March 31st however, will unfortunately not be able to participate. The reason for this is because we need to make sure the event is as organized as possible! (so come to the the run through) Whether you can sing, dance, recite poetry, play an instrument, etc, all talents are welcome!

Meetings 10,11,12

It's been awhile since the last post, but after Spirit Week and Mid-Winter Break, Student Council is getting ready for the upcoming Carnival, ND Garbage Free Campaign, and Talent Show!

Meetings 10 and 11 were mainly organizational meetings to focus on the Chinese New Year Celebration and to give updates on Spirit Week. Our thanks to everyone who came to the wonderful and very successful event; everyone had such a great time! Spirit Week was so much fun, and thanks to all who came and participated at the Seniors Vs. Faculty Game(the students, teachers, Seniors, and spirit Squad), and congrats to the Seniors who won!

Meeting 12 was an E-Board meeting where we discussed the upcoming Carnival on March 11th. This year, the Carnival is going to be in the Auditorium, and there are going to be a lot of entertaining booths such as: Cupcake Decorating (25 cents), Karaoke, T-Shirt Decorating, Twister, Food, a designated place to get your picture taken with friends, and the Pie- in-Your- Face booth, where students can put in quarters in jars for which ever E-Board member they want to get pied in the face! The three members with the most quarters will get pied after the Carnival by three random students!

-The next event that was discussed is the Cultural Showcase on April 1st. This is event is a Talent Show open to everyone! Flyers and sign-up sheets will soon be around the school. We encourage all students to sign-up so they can show off their talent, whether its singing, dancing, playing an instrument, etc.

-We would also like to give a lot of thanks to Sr.Virginia, who agreed to pay for all the recycling bins that Student Council will purchase in order to Keep ND Garbage Free!

-Student Council is also embarking on a campaign to get more students to visit the library. The library is a great place to study and do homework, and it is also under appreciated. There are books that have not been read there since 1980! There also a lot of new books that students will enjoy; just ask the librarian Ms.Catennacio, who is very nice and spends a lot of time and effort to buy books that students will read. So if you have as little free time after school, why don't you stop by the library to just look around, you're bound to find something!

Leave a comment or question!
Thanks!
-Student Council =)
